However, both tires have to make do with the thin EXO casing, requiring you to run high tire pressures to protect the expensive carbon rims. The rims are shod with 2.4″ MAXXIS Minion DHR II tires, with the front tire sensibly featuring the softest MaxxGrip rubber compound. These come fitted with Reserve Fillmore valves as standard, which proved to be very useful in our long-term review. RSV describes the in-house Reserve carbon wheels with their distinct reinforcing around the nipples. The GX AXS stands for the SRAM groupset, consisting of a wireless GX AXS 12-speed drivetrain and robust aluminium cranks. ![]() The cryptic GX AXS RSV model name hints at the components of this build. One of the innovations includes a small cut-out in the frame, making it a lot easier to check the sag reading on the shock. … with the 145 mm travel at the rear, which gets managed by a RockShox Super Deluxe Select+ shock. The 150 mm travel FOX 36 Performance Elite fork pairs well… That way, setting up the shock is a lot less fiddly – great! ![]() The small cut-out in the frame for the sag indicator on the RockShox shock is very useful. In addition, the shock also has a lockout lever for the climbs. Its adjustment options are rather limited: air pressure and rebound, that’s it. At the rear, you get a RockShox Super Deluxe Select+ shock. Up front, you get a FOX 36 Performance Elite fork offering 150 mm travel without the gold Kashima coating, though with the same extensive adjustment options and performance as the more expensive Factory model. By now, the brand’s preferred combination of suspension components could almost be considered a tradition and they’re not about to break it here. Santa Cruz rely predominantly on SRAM and FOX components for the € 9,199 GX AXS RSV build, paired with a host of in-house solutions. The components of the 2023 Santa Cruz Hightower 3 C GX AXS RSV on test It promises the same stiffness at a lower weight and fewer carbon layers. The latter doesn’t stand for cross-country it’s just the designation used for their high-end carbon fibre. As usual, Santa Cruz also offer the Hightower in two different carbon grades: C and CC. Product Compatibility, Setup, Fit, & Installation Information. That way the shock stays clean and the rear end remains quiet. Increased clearance between shock and top of shock tunnel (helps clear coil shocks).Travel: 160mm (with stock 210x55mm shock).Travel: 150mm (with stock 210x52.5mm shock). In fact, the air shock is our choice with this link for our local trails. The Hightower LT link improves descending performance noticeably with an air shock as well, so for a lot of riders the air shock is the way to go. With this set up, whether or not coil is for you is your call. ![]() By increasing the progression and raising the initial leverage ratio, the suspension sags properly with the spring rate that’s needed to not bottom out harshly. Because the Hightower uses a short stroke shock, the required spring rate to avoid harsh bottom outs results in very little sag with the stock link. Increasing clearance here allows coils to fit more comfortably and makes the shock tunnel width the only limiting factor in coil size. This is one of the tightest spots when fitting a coil with the stock link. The link also increases the clearance between the shock and the top of the shock tunnel. A 55mm stroke shock (160mm of travel) can be run if desired, but for people with smaller frames or completely slammed seats, tire buzz can be an issue. We have designed the Hightower LT link around the stock 210 x 52.5mm shock so no changes are necessary to run it. ![]() Coupled with this link, the Hightower V2 is the perfect enduro race bike for all but the most gnarly locations (Whistler & such). The Hightower LT link also adds mid-stroke support, coupled with some slight geometry changes, lets the bike rail corners even better. For us, this bike is our go-to set up for big pedal days with big descents. This creates a more confidence-inspiring ride that can let you push as if you were on an enduro rig while still maintaining excellent climbing ability. As a result, the bike tracks better and stays composed through big impacts. These changes to the leverage curve help the suspension absorb chatter even better, while also soaking up large hits with ease. The Hightower LT link stretches the capabilities of a really good all-around bike even further. DHX2 Spherical Mullet Eyelet (2021-current)
